Ok, so I just finished posting all of my WWF 2000 PPV Rambles, and I thought I’d make a post sharing some of my thoughts of the year on PPV etc.<\/p>\n

Firstly, let me just say that I LOVE WWF 2000. After missing 98 and 98 when it happened, 2000 was the year I was able to watch wrestling again. So I have fond memories of the year for that reason alone… but damn it’s still so enjoyable to watch back now because it was THAT GOOD. Obviously I just watched the PPV’s for this project, but the TV shows were excellent at the time too, finally getting the right balance of storylines, characters AND great matches, something that the “main” Attitude Era years of 98 and 99 failed miserably at.<\/p>\n

The 2000 PPV’s certainly gave us some GREAT matches. The top 10 matches of the year are all outstanding and some of my personal favourite matches took place there too. Rock, a guy I absolutely cannot stand, put on some incredible performances and produced some matches that I can’t help but love. And when I love a match with at least one guy in it that I actively hate, then you know it’s a pretty damn good match! HHH of course is widely considered the king of 2000, at least in WWF anyway, and well, he DOMINATES the top 5 PPV matches of the year by being in ALL OF THEM. Matches with Jericho, Rock and Foley. But at the same time… he falls short with half of his PPV matches too, with matches against Austin, Angle, Benoit and a triple threat against Angle and Rock all being among the worst matches of the year, and a couple of in between matches that weren’t bad but don’t stand out. So one of the things I realised while doing this project is that HHH in 2000 is OVERRATED, certainly for his PPV work anyway. Him being in the top 5 matches is certainly IMMENSELY impressive, but he had just as many BAD matches as good.<\/p>\n
So with HHH only having HALF a great year on PPV in 2000, who would I put into the “Wrestler of the Year” position? Not a single wrestler, but a TAG TEAM. The Hardy Boys, The Dudley Boys and Edge & Christian all ruled the tag team landscape in 2000, and together had some of the most infamous matches in WWE history. But one team stands out just ahead of the other 2, and that’s THOSE DAMN DUDLEYS. And those 2 guys are my pick for Wrestler of the Year as far as PPV’s go. Not only do they have 2 matches in the top 10, but they are extremely consistent throughout the entire year, having good to great matches on just about every show. The triangle ladder at WM, tables match at RR, TLC at SS, Vs T&A at Backlash, and then a couple of good matches following with only a couple of “bad” matches that honestly weren’t down to them (big multi-man tags and a short match against NAO with an injured Billy Gunn). The Dudley Boys were definitely on a role in 2000, and just managed to stand out ahead of E&C and The Hardy Boys who also came pretty close to being on top in 2000. HHH still deserves a big mention for those top 5 matches of course, but I just can’t overlook all the stinkers he had!<\/p>\n
